Thomas O. Long, 73 of Mexico, passed away at 12:32 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013 at Audrain Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Arnold Funeral Home with Kenny Mantle officiating. Visitation is Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.
Thomas was born Sept. 25, 1939 in Tennessee. On Jan. 17, 1970 at St. Brendan Catholic Church in Mexico, he married Carol Borgmeyer.
Mr. Long volunteered for the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam. He worked for Jay's and Plaza IGA, Bob Green's in Vandalia and later retired from Prengers in Centralia.
Thomas loved his granddaughters, gardening and going to McDonalds, where he enjoyed having coffee and visiting with friends. He also enjoyed building things for his family.
Survivors include his wife, Carol of the home; one son, Chris Long and wife, Trish of Mexico; two granddaughters, Aubrey and Kaytlin; two sisters, Lydia Smith and husband Bob and their daughter, Susie, all of Clark, and Nancy LeBrun of Mexico; one brother, Charlie Hall of Mexico; and a number of nieces and nephews.
