The North Callaway Lady Thunderbirds softball team defeated the Van-Far Lady Indians 15-0 in an East Missouri Conference game bringing their record to a perfect 14-0 (7-0 in conference play). The win guarantees North Callaway a share in the conference title with one conference game left to play.
Danielle Cassidy was on the mound for the Thunderbirds and allowed one hit, no walks, and had eight strikeouts. This was Cassidy's eighth shutout of the season and brings her overall record to 10-0. She helped her own cause at the plate by going 3-3 with 5 RBI. The Thunderbird's domination was complete with every batter recording at least one hit for the night. Coach Sarah Baumgartner said of the team's 15 hits, 15 runs, and 1 error performance, "The team played well as a whole in all categories – offense, defense, and pitching."
It was also Senior Night for the Thunderbirds where they honored their five seniors. All five contributed to the team effort in the win. Jaida Gray went 1-3 with a run scored. Baylie Borman went 2-2, was hit by a pitch, and scored three runs. Kelsey Coil went 2-3 with 2 RBI. Maddie Sorell went 1-2, drew a walk, had 1 RBI, and scored two runs. Makenlea Jones went 2-3, registered 2 RBI, and scored two runs. "Tonight we honored five hard working seniors and it was a good game for each of them ending the home season undefeated," Baumgartner said.
The North Callaway will play in the Centralia Tournament this weekend as the No. 3 seed, drawing Moberly for the 10:30 a.m. game Saturday.
