Junior Danielle Baumgartner puts in another strong performance

Bulldogs softball traveled to Fulton Thursday, concluding NCMC play with a 6-3 win over the Hornets.
Junior Danielle Baumgartner had another strong performance, striking out ten batters and hitting a three-run home run in the first inning.
The Bulldogs had put runners on first and second before Baumgartner brought them home. Junior Alison Mudd drew a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball and sophomore Laura Fischer hit a single.
The Hornets responded with two runs in the first and another in the third to tie the game, but the Bulldogs secured the win with a three-run sixth inning.
Junior Abigail Dick led the sixth with a walk and freshman DJ Aaron followed with a single. Dick and Aaron advanced on a sacrifice bunt by senior Victoria Shaw before senior Ashlee Woodruff reached first on an error to load the bases.
Junior Haley Test hit into a fielder's choice that left her out at first but allowed Dick to score the go-ahead run, putting the Bulldogs up 4-3. Mudd returned to the plate and hit a two-RBI single, scoring Aaron and Woodruff and extending the Bulldog lead, 6-3.
Junior Karen Baker had a double in the seventh, but was left stranded.
"We started off strong and Fulton gave us a game tonight," head coach Christina Gerber said. "We kept at it and got it done."
The win improved Mexico's record to 14-6 (9-3 NCMC) in the last conference game of the regular season. The Bulldogs host the undefeated North Callaway Thunderbirds Monday, when they will honor seniors Courtney Inlow, Madison White, Shaw and Woodruff.
