SHELBYVILLE, Mo. – Zack Schmitter turned the performance of the season to date, as he rushed for 249 yards and 5 touchdowns on 41 carries. Schmitter scored the game winning touchdown and two-point conversion in overtime as the Rams beat North Shelby Friday night to pick up their first win, 36-28.

“He really stepped up for us tonight. I told him before the game that we are going to ride him for the rest of the season, it wasn’t until after the game that I realized we ran him 41 times. The offensive line did a great job of opening holes for him too,” said Schuyler County head coach Nick Wooldrick.

North Shelby had a chance to tie the game in overtime, but Justin Seaton came up with a sack that caused a fumble that was recovered by SC.

The majority of the scoring took place in the second half, as SC lead just 12-6 at halftime. The Raiders took the lead with their first drive of the third quarter. The teams went back-and-forth until the Raider scored with two minutes left in the game to tie the game. NS decided to go for two and failed forcing overtime.

The win was the first of the season for Schuyler.

“It was a great feeling to pick up a win tonight. There are still things we need to correct, but it was good to come and get our first win, hopefully it can get us started for the rest of the season,” said Wolldrick.
