In junior varsity football action, the Bulldogs beat the Warrenton Warriors 34-0 Monday night at Hawthorne Heights.
The Bulldogs' first touchdown came in the second quarter. After the Bulldogs forced a turnover on downs, sophomore QB Spencer Thomas ran the ball for 47 yards. Thomas then followed his run with a 35-yard pass to sophomore WR Wesley Oetting to record Mexico's first points of the night. Sophomore J.W. Turner ran in the two-point conversion to give the Bulldogs an eight-point advantage going into halftime.
Mexico's next scoring drive came in the third quarter, led-off by a 45-yard kickoff return from Oetting. Freshman Brit Wilson followed with runs of 15 and four yards each to put Mexico in the endzone and sophomore Zach Groves caught a pass to give Mexico the two-point conversion.
Wilson followed his touchdown with an interception, running the ball back 46 yards to score again. Oetting ran in the two point conversion to make the score 24-0 in favor of the Bulldogs.
In the fourth quarter, sophomore Tanner Smith intercepted the ball and Turner completed a one-yard touchdown run. Turner then ran in the two-point conversion, stretching the Mexico lead to 32.
Mexico's defense forced a safety in the final two-minutes of play to secure the Bulldog victory, 34-0.
Junior varsity football returns to the field Monday, hosting the Kirksville Tigers.
