Volleyball hosts seventh-grade tournament

Mexico Middle School football hosted the Hannibal Pirates in a pair of games for the seventh and eighth grade B-teams Saturday at Hawthorne Heights.
The eighth graders were able to continue their previous success this season, beating the Pirates 30-20.
"I'm very happy with the way the team played," coach David Okenfuss said. "We were down by eight point in the first quarter but battled back. The offensive and defensive lines excelled as well."
Three players contributed to the Bulldogs 30 points. Marquis Williams scored three touchdowns on runs of 40, 45 and 50 yards. Dylan Patton had a 30 yard touchdown reception and Avon Williams ran one in 35 yards to round-out scoring for the Bulldogs.
The seventh graders did not fare as well, falling to the Pirates 38-0.
MMS football concludes play Tuesday night in Moberly when both the seventh and eighth grade teams take on the Spartans.
MMS hosted five area teams at the Mexico Seventh Grade Tournament Wednesday and Saturday.
The Bulldogs won their first match Wednesday, beating the Eldon Mustangs 25-12, 25-12
The team returned to the court that night against the Warrenton Warriors, falling in three games 22-25, 25-23, 15-15.
On Saturday, the Bulldogs faced the Hannibal Pirates in the semi-finals. Hannibal defeated Mexico 25-21, 25-10 to eliminate the Bulldogs from the tournament.
Hannibal would go on to take first in the tournament by defeating Warrenton in the finals.
The seventh graders will be joined by the eighth grade team tonight, when they return to the court against the Montgomery County Wildcats on the road.
