  • Bulldogs volleyball went to the wire with the Warrenton Warriors, losing in three games, 25-20, 15-25, 22-25 Monday at Gary Filbert Court.
"We were better as playing as a team tonight," head coach Rachel Leu said. "We still have to improve on working hard for every play though."
In the first game, the Bulldogs rushed out to an early lead, leading by as many as 11 points. The Warriors controlled the second game, but the third was a dog fight between the two teams.
In the final game, the Warriors scored early. They led Mexico 11-6, but the Bulldogs scored four unanswered points to move within one and eventually tied the game at 12 before taking the lead 13-12.
The Warriors responded quickly however, scoring seven of their own to make the score 19-13. After a few back-and-forth points, Warrenton led 24-19. The Bulldogs kept fighting, scoring three more before the Warriors scored the game point, to win 25-22.
"We have to learn not to take other teams' errors for granted," Leu said. "They made a lot of unforced errors in the first game and didn't in the second and third. We need to keep our heads up when that happens and recognize that it doesn't mean we're playing any worse."
The Bulldogs move to 4-12-1 with the loss.
The team returns to the court Thursday, hosting conference rival Marshall.
