  • Thompson residents Terry and Sheila Hagedorn continued their winning ways in the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League this year, taking first in the Champion Tour Standings with their Speedco Modified 4WD truck Gunpowder and Lead.
The Hagedorn's second truck, Untamed Spirit, finished fifth in the Champion Tour.
Truck pull competitions take place on dirt tracks. The truck hooks up to a weight transfer complete with an advanced gearing system that can force the truck to pull up to 80,000 pounds of weight as far as possible. The Hagedorns' trucks boast modifications including a lightweight body and 2,000 horsepower motors.
This is the third time the Hagedorns have won in the nation's premier Truck Pulling league.
Unlike many of their competitors, the Hagedorns compete with a do-it-yourself attitude, Terry is the owner/operator of Thompson Service Center and builds his own motors and conducts modifications to vehicles himself.
"I guess that gives me kind of an advantage," he says. "The other guys might go in and say 'hey, I need more power,' after a bad competition. I can just get in there and start tweaking things myself."
In fact, despite his success in competition, Terry says motor building is his true passion and that he utilizes competition as a showcase for his motor building skill.
"Hopefully people will see my success in competition and ask 'where does he get his motors?'" Terry says. "Of course, I'm building them right here."
Although Terry is making a name for himself as one of the nation's premier builders of high-performance motors, his shop continues to offer services to daily driver cars as well.
