Centralia Panthers softball will advance to the MSHSAA class three state quarterfinals after winning the sectional championship Wednesday over the Warrenton Warriors, 5-0.
The teams' record improves to 24-2 during another stand-out season for the Panthers. Centralia has won the state championship the last two years.
Baylee Douglass pitched another strong game, striking out 12 and allowing no walks while the Panther defense held the Warriors to just two hits.
Alli Massey went 3-4 with two RBIs to help the Panther offense. Kailee Chitwood had only one hit, but it was good for two RBIs. Douglass and Nicole Duncan had two hits each.
"We didn't hit as well as usual, but the girls never gave up and just kept chipping away," coach Jill Angel said.
The Panthers will return to the field Saturday in O'Fallon when they face St. Dominic High School.
