  • The Mexico-Audrain Library's Carnegie Building is in the midst of replacing the original clay tile roof that was installed in the early 1900s. The project costs are estimated between $75,000-$100,000 and should be completed within the next two-four weeks depending on the weather.
“We needed to do a major overhaul,” said Ray Hall, Library Director. “The roof had developed a few leaks and there have been several water issues.”
One such issue, the damaging of the North exterior wall due to heavy rains last spring, prompted the Library Board to act. They contracted with Missouri Builders Supply of Jefferson City to handle the renovation project. The project includes removing and preserving the old tiles, installing a new modern underliner, and then replacing the preserved clay tiles.
“Everyone is excited about getting the roof repaired,” Hall said. “Kudos to the Library Board for establishing a 'rainy day' fund that allows for repairs without draining our operating budget.”
