Martha Jane Kennen Carnahan, 87, of Palmyra, Mo., passed away Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra. Jane was born June 14, 1926 in Mexico, Mo. to Kenneth Graham and Marthann Tinsley Kennen. Jane was married to Ross Collins Carnahan March 25, 1950 in Laddonia, Mo. He preceded her in death August 6, 1984.
Survivors include: daughter, Mrs. Martha Ann (Larry) Myers of Palmyra; grandchildren: Sarah (Don) Long of Jacksonville, Fla.; Joshua (Terra) Myers of Palmyra; Cpl. Jeffrey (Shayna) Myers of Fort Carson, Colo.; great-grandchildren: Jaydin Schaefer and Jena Myers of Palmyra. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Kenneth Graham Kennen, Jr.
Mrs. Carnahan was the secretary to the board of education for the Palmyra R-1 School District for 33 years. She had formerly worked as secretary and bookkeeper for Cissna Chevrolet in Palmyra and wrote book reviews for the Palmyra Spectator.
She was a 1943 graduate of Laddonia High School and attended both the University of Missouri in Columbia and Kirksville State Teacher's College.
Jane was a member of the Marion County United Democrats, Marion County Democratic Central Committee, Missouri Association of Office Personnel, Palmyra Pierian Chapter, and the Missouri Federation of Women Democrats. She had served as an in house election judge for Marion County, Missouri. She was a member of the Palmyra United Meth-odist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 31, 2013 at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra. Rev. Eric Anderson and Rev. Helen McFarland will officiate. Burial will be at the Laddonia Cemetery in Laddonia, Mo. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra, Missouri.
Memorial contributions may be made to Palmyra Bicentennial Library .
Casket bearers include Joshua Myers, Cpl. Jeffrey Myers, Don Long, Tony Lenzini, Bob Dearing, and Chris Carlstead.
