Russell Carl Unger, 78 of Mexico, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2013 at Pin Oaks Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Mike Gallagher officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation is Sunday from 4-6 at Arnold Funeral Home.
Russell was born on August 7, 1935 at New Haven, MO, the son of Alfred and Amanda (Berghorn) Unger. On November 26, 1960 he married Rosella Schwenker who survives at the home.
He is also survived by three sons, Walter (Teresa), Mark (Karen), and Brian (Christina), all of Mexico; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Maurice of New Haven and Don of Shawnee, KS and a sister Darlene Buenemann of New Haven, along with numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-grandson Landyn.
Russell farmed and owned a feed store at New Haven before he and Rosella purchased a farm at Mexico in 1974. In 1980 he and his sons began Unger Tractor Sales on the farm which is continuing operation by his sons.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was in the National Guard. He was a devoted husband and father and loved spending time with his family and doted on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or Shiloh Children's Ranch.
