Christmas Parade, Cowboy Christmas Toy Drive, part of the festivities
It will be busy in downtown Mexico Saturday Nov. 23 as several events are scheduled in and around the square. The public is welcome to attend all of the events that help start the holiday season in Mexico.
The 12th annual Cowboy Christmas Toy Drive will start the festivities at noon at Twillman Feed and Seed in Mexico with hot dogs and chili. Then at 12:30 p.m. they will have an auction of merchandise donated by area businesses. Line-up for the parade will start at 2 p.m. with the actual parade starting immediately after the Christmas Parade. Spectators are asked to donate one new canned or boxed food item if they can. Anyone wanting to donate along the parade route can stop the wagon as it passes by.
The Decorate Downtown Mexico Committee and the Little Dixie Fire Department Cadet Corps will sponsor the Christmas Parade starting at 3:30 p.m. The parade will feature floats from various local groups and organizations. Line up for the parade begins at 2:30 p.m. at the corner of North Washington and Love. The parade culminates at the mini-park on Jefferson Street at Santa's House.
There will be a Holiday Lighting Ceremony at 5 p.m. (or at dark) that features more than 1500 holiday lights. Employees of Consolidated Electric and Ameren UE volunteered to string the lights for the event sponsored in part by the Decorate Downtown Mexico Committee.
