Obituary published November 25, 2013 in the Mexico Ledger

William A. "Bill" Pepper, 85 of Mexico, passed away Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Arnold Funeral Home with Gary McGuire officiating. Visitation is Wednesday from noon until service time at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Brewster Pepper, Andy Utterback, Jacob Utterback, Trenton Pepper, Trevor Pepper and Dennis Isgrig. Honorary pallbearers are Jacob Nixon, John Isgrig and Jesse Isgrig.
Bill was born June 14, 1928 in Keota, Iowa, the son of George H. and Rose Amelia (Crawford) Pepper. On Aug. 10, 1962 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, he married Patricia Jean Schantz. She survives at the home.
Mr. Pepper was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served out of Ft. Riley, Kansas with the 79th Engineer Battalion in Korea from 1951-52. In 1951, he attended school at the Naval Academy in Iwo Jima, Japan for six weeks.
Bill farmed his entire life. He started farming with his wife in Iowa and they moved to Mexico in March 1968. They farmed together for over 50 years. Mr. Pepper was very close with his family and he never knew a stranger.
In addition to his wife, Patricia of the home, Bill is survived by one son, Bryan Pepper of Mexico; one daughter, Teresa (Allen) Utterback of Mexico; six grandchildren, Brewster (Summer) Pepper of Mexico, Andy (Melanie) Utterback of Mexico, Jennifer (Jacob) Nixon of Mexico, Jacob Utterback of Mexico, Trenton and Trevor Pepper, both of Rush Hill; three great-grandchildren, Cale, Bennett and Ila; one brother, Roger W. "Red" Pepper and wife, Gerry of Nixa; and one sister-in-law, Margaret Pepper of Washington, Iowa.
Mr. Pepper was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth H. Pepper.
