New managing editor named

Brenda Fike has been named managing editor of The Mexico Ledger by general manager Martin Keller. Fike, former assistant editor, has been a long-time Ledger employee. Also, reporter Jonathan Griffin has been moved to the sports department and Allen Fennewald of Martinsburg has been hired as a general reporter.
Fike was hired in 1972, following her graduation from Gem City Business School. She worked in the production department until 1987 when she moved to the Neighbors desk as editor. In 2000 she was named assistant editor.
"I hope to continue the tradition of strong journalism at The Ledger," Fike said. "I have the big shoes of Janeen Sims to fill in this position."
Keller said he selected Fike for several reasons. "Brenda is a hometown girl with many years of experience in all aspects of The Ledger," he said. "She is involved in the community, knows a lot of people and has chosen to make Mexico home."
Brenda is married to Larry Fike, and they are the parents of two children and five grandchildren.
Fennewald is a 2013 graduate of the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Arts in English degree. Griffin has been a general reporter at the Ledger since September.
Griffin will replace Derek Legg who has been covering sports since August, following his graduation from Westminster College. Legg leaves for the U.S. Army's Infantry Basic Officer Leadership course at Ft. Benning, Georgia in January.
