Mexico to play in championship game

Mexico eighth grade boys earned a berth to the championship game of Centralia's Chester Boren Tournament Tuesday, beating Columbia's West Middle School Vikings to improve to 4-0.
After a low-scoring first quarter, the Bulldogs led 4-3. They extended the lead 19-7 going into the half before pulling away with a 37-16 victory.
"We started out a little sluggish, but the boys really came together as a team," coach Ryan Richardson said. "They took to heart the adjustments that were made and put together a really good effort."
Dein Wayman recorded 11 points and eight rebounds to lead the Bulldogs in scoring. Jamarquay McGruder and Tyler Spargo had eight points and seven rebounds apiece. Michael White added another four point and five rebounds while Quinton and Cameron Baumgartner contributed two points and three rebounds each. Cameron Holman rounded out the Mexico scoring with with two points.
"Their efforts on the boards made the difference in the game and set us apart," Richardson said. "I know the kids are extremely excited to be playing in the championship game Friday night."
