  • MHS Lady Bulldogs overcome Owls 56-53 in overtime
The MHS Lady Bulldogs came away with a win in their first conference game of the year, beating the Marshall Owls in overtime Monday at Gary Filbert Court.
The Bulldogs trailed 32-22 at half and the Owls stretched their lead to 15 points early in the third quarter, but the Bulldogs fought back outscoring the Owls 14-13 in the third quarter and 13-4 in the fourth to force overtime and walk away with the victory, 56-53.
"It was a good win for our girls; getting their first conference win and taking care of our home court," Mexico coach Edward Costley said.
Karen Baker led the Bulldogs in scoring with 15 points on 5-8 three-point shooting. Baker hit two from beyond the arc in the fourth quarter to help the Bulldogs seal the come-from-behind victory. Ali Mudd scored eight points, including a three-pointer in the hard fought fourth quarter.
Kelli Ingrum had 11 points, including a put-back shot in final seconds of regulation to tie the game and force overtime. Ingrum also contributed six critical rebounds on a night when the Bulldogs lost the battle on the boards 34-23. Danielle Baumgartner led the Bulldogs with nine rebounds in addition to scoring eight points.
"During the first half of play, I wasn't pleased with our defense," Costley said. "We weren't anticipating getting deflections to disrupt their offense. In the fourth quarter we were more active on defense which led to better offensive play. I'm proud of how our girls continued to play when being down by 15 in the third."
The Bulldogs return to action Dec. 12 at Eldon.
CHS Lady Panthers Down Salisbury 61-47
The Centralia Lady Panthers squared off against the Salisbury Lady Panthers in the first round of the Centralia Invitational Tournament Monday and came away a winner, 61-47.
On offense, Kailee Chitwood led the CHS Lady Panthers in scoring with 17 points, followed by Katie Crigler with 13 points and Madison Gordon with 12 points to round out those players hitting double digits in the scoring category. On defense, the Lady Panthers had 19 total rebounds. Massey and Duncan pulled in 5 rebounds each to tie for the team lead in the rebound category. Chitwood registered four rebounds, Armontrout and Wilkerson had two rebounds each with Jennings adding the final rebound to the tally.
The Lady Panthers recorded six steals with Massey recording three, Gordon registering two and Wilkerson adding one.

NCHS Lady Thunderbirds down SB Lady Eagles 45-41
Top-seeded North Callaway girls basketball held on against the upset-minded Southern Boone Eagles Monday in the first round of the Centralia Tournament.
The Thunderbirds and Eagles were tied at 34 to end the third quarter, but the Thunderbirds used 5-6 free-throw shooting in the fourth to outscore the Eagles 11-7 and walk away with the win, 45-41.
"At halftime we just simplified our offense and defense," North Callaway coach Matt Miller said. "In the fourth quarter we took it one possession at a time and got some really good shots."
Elaine Brinker was the leading scorer for the Thunderbirds with 14 points and five assists. Maddie Sorrell added 12 points and three steals to help lead the North Callaway to victory.
"On the defensive side in the second half, we did a much better job of blocking out and only giving them one shot," Miller said.
The Thunderbird improve to 3-1 with the win. They return to action Wednesday to play the fifth-seeded Macon Tigers.
