  • Mexico girls basketball lost a road match to the Eldon Mustangs Thursday, 64-50.
"We played a near flawless first half, shooting 57 percent from the field and executing on both ends of the floor, knowing we needed to play that way against a good Eldon team," Mexico coach Ed Costley said.
The Bulldogs trailed 29-27 at the half, and kept it close through the third quarter 45-40. The Bulldogs gave up three turnovers in a two-minute stretch early in the fourth which allowed the Mustangs to stretch their lead to double-digits and outscore the Bulldogs 19-10 in the period.
The Bulldogs shot 57 percent from the field and 60 percent from beyond the arc during the first half but slipped to 24 percent shooting in the second half.
"Eldon's length in their zone made it difficult down the stretch," Costley said.
Kelli Ingrum scored 12 points and had nine rebounds to lead the Bulldogs in both categories. Remington Greenwell and Karen Baker had eight points each. Danielle Baumgartner contributed seven points and Katilin Ingrum six. Ali Mudd had five points and Ashlie Woodruff and Tori Shaw each scored two points.
Bulldogs girls basketball travels to Kirksville Monday to face the Tigers in a return to NCMC action.
