ady Thunderbirds down Macon 38-33, will play for championship
The North Callaway High School Lady Thunderbirds took on the Macon Lady Tigers in the semi-final round of the Centralia Invitational Tournament on Wednesday and came away with a 38-33 win. Maddie Sorell lead the team with 14 points, eight of which were scored in the first quarter, and five steals. Elaine Brinker added all of her 11 points in the second half. Jaida Gray only had four points but she led the team with six assists. "Our goal was to get back to the championship game and defend our title," said Coach Matt Miller. "They played great on defense and on offense we only had nine turnovers, a season low."
The Lady Thunderbirds return to action Friday night at 8 p.m. when they take on the Booneville Lady Pirates for the championship game.
The North Callaway Thunderbirds defeated the Boonville Pirates Thursday evening by the score of 54-52. Brett Metcalf led the Thunderbirds in scoring with 19 points. Chance Kee scored 13 points including a pair of clutch free throws in the last minute to extend the slight lead. Brandon Hagedorn had six rebounds and Justin Menard had five steals. "It was great to get that first win," said Head Coach Tim Turlington. "This is a good thing to build on."
The Thunderbirds will return to action Saturday Dec. 14 at 5 p.m. to play Southern Boone in the consolation game.
Centralia Panthers take out Salisbury 61-53
The Centralia Panthers took took a 15-point lead into the final quarter versus the state ranked Salisbury Panthers Thursday evening and won by the score of 61-63. Justin Eikel and Chandler Blackwell both had 14 points for the Panthers. Denver Horn added 11 points.
The Panthers advance to play in the tournament championship Saturday Dec. 14, at 8 p.m. versus Sturgeon.
Due to inclement weather all games shceduled for Friday evening Dec. 13 have been rescheduled to Saturday Dec. 14 starting at 1:30 p.m.
