Eight grade boys remain undefeated

The Mexico eighth grade boys remained undefeated Monday, beating the Bowling Green Bobcats 40-26 at home.
"We did a good job tonight of coming out and building a good lead in the first half," Mexico coach Ryan Richardson said. "Our defense once again was the difference, we had some kids tonight that really stepped up on the defensive side of the ball and held Bowling Green in check most of the night."
Deion Wayman was the Bulldogs' leading scorer with 13 points while contributing three steals. Cameron Holman had nine points. Jamarquay McGruder had six points and five rebounds. Avion Williams added four points and LeeAndre Reed had two.
"Tyler Spargo, Michael White and Cameron and Quinton Baumgartner did a phenomenal job on the defensive end tonight guarding who I think are the best post players we have seen all year," Richardson said.
The Bulldogs held the Bobcats scoreless in first quarter while scoring nine points of their own. They went up 19-4 by the end of the half and extended the lea 32-9 in the third.
Mexico seventh grade boys got their first win of the season Monday, beating the Bobcats 26-21 at home.
"Bowling Green came out and scored six quick points, but the boys buckled down and our defense ended up winning us this game," Mexico coach Brandon Schafer said. "I was extremely proud of the way we handled each run Bowling Green made and how we weren't hesitant to attack the basket."
The Bulldogs led 8-6 after one quarter and held the lead 12-11 at the half. The Bulldogs went up 19-16 in the third quarter before securing the victory in the fourth.
Taylor Bledsoe had 15 points and three assists to lead the Bulldogs in scoring. Cole Whalen had eight points. Jake Sims had three points and eight rebounds while Jasean White had six rebounds and three steals.
"Each player knew his role and we did a great job with our help defense," Schafer said. "We still need to work on our shot selection and getting the ball inside, but with every game comes improvement with these boys."
The seventh and eighth grade boys return to the court tonight in Marshall.
Mexico eighth grade girls lost to the Bowling Green Bobcats 36-19 Monday in Bowling Green.
"We had a good first half and were close in the third quarter, but in the fourth quarter we had too many turnovers and struggled against their zone," Mexico coach Cindy Allison said. "We have three games this week so we look to learn what we can and move on to the next game."
The Bulldogs led 15-13 at the half, but struggled in the third quarter to trail 24-19 before being held scoreless in the fourth quarter.
Kylie Morgan led the Bulldogs in scoring with seven points and four rebounds. MacKenzie Davis had five points and three rebounds, Elisabeth Gooch had five points, seven rebounds and two assists and Ana Minnick had two points, four rebounds and one steal.
The seventh grade girls also struggled against the Bobcats, falling 47-25.
The Bobcats led 26-12 at the half and extended their lead to 39-16 at the end of the third quarter.
"We struggled with making a good start to the game and continued to dig ourselves into a hole," Mexico coach Stephanie Robinett said. "Our biggest need for improvement in our rebounding. I think we made a better effort toward the end of the game reading their defense to take a good shot."
Raigan Playter led the Bulldogs in scoring with seven points and Mattie Roth added six.
The seventh and eighth grade girls host the Marshall Owls tonight.
