North Callaway Lady Thunderbirds

North Callaways girls basketball beat Wellsville-Middletown 62-30, Thursday in Wellsville.
The Thunderbirds rushed ahead early, outscoring the Tigers 20-4 in the first quarter and leading 36-15 at the half. A 21-5 third quarter extended the North Callaway lead before the Tigers outscored the Thunderbirds 9-5 in the fourth.
"We got several steals that led to easy baskets in the first quarter," North Callaway coach Matt Miller said. "That led to a lot of quality playing time for the younger players."
North Callaway improves to 7-1 (2-0 EMO) with the victory while Wellsville-Middletown slips to 1-6 (1-1 EMO).
Jaida Gray was the Thunderbirds' leading scorer with 18 points and four assists. Maddie Sorrell had 12 points and six rebounds while Elaine Brinker had nine points and seven assists.
Jordan Kellogg and Taylor Mays were the Tigers' leading scorers. Kellogg had 12 points and Mays had 11.
In junior varsity action, the Thunderbirds beat the Tigers 35-5. Taylor Wilson and Maddie Ausfahl had eight points each for North Callaway, Allyson Korman scored five for Wellsville-Middletown.
The Thunderbirds return to the court Dec. 30 against the Southern Boone County Eagles. The Tigers face the Highland Cougars Dec. 28 at the Moberly Regional Medical Center Shootout in Moberly.

Community R-6 Trojans

Community R-6 boys basketball lost a close game to the Monroe City Panthers 48-44, Thursday in Monroe City. The Trojans slip to 4-1 with the loss.
"Monroe shot the ball well all night and we had a cold spell in the fourth quarter which was the difference," Trojans coach Kennett Jett said. "We might have lost a little of our legs in the fourth quarter."
The Cougars led 16-10 at the end of the first quarter, but the Trojans bounced back to take a 22-21 lead in to the half. The Trojans held on to their lead through the third quarter, ending the period 34-33 but slipped in the games final period.
Lane and Clay Thebeau were the Trojans' leading scorers. Lane scored 15 points and Clay scored 13.
The Trojans return to the court tonight on the road at Van-Far.
