Mexico wrestlers pick up tournament pins and wins
Mexico wrestling took to the road Saturday and Sunday, with two Bulldogs taking top honors as the team finished seventh in the 23-team Harrisonville Christmas Tournament.
Payton Turner finished the weekend 16-0 with 12 pins, two decisions and two byes to earn first-place in the 182-pound weight class and score 93 points for the Bulldogs.
Jayde Moran earned first-place at 142 pounds by finishing 14-2 with six pins, eight decisions and two byes to score 87 points.
Jordan Jones, Brit Wilson, Sam Fayad, and Anthony Brewer also finished the tournament with winning records. Jones earned fifth place in the 126-pound weight class by finishing 14-2 to earn 68.5 points. Wilson went 10-6 in the 138-pound weight class to earn fourth with 67.5 points. Fayad was 10-6, earning 57.5 points to take seventh at 160 pounds. Brewer was 12-4, earning a ninth-place finish in the 195-pound weight class with 49 points.
Shea O'Rourke, Jadin Taylor, JW Turner, and Jaylen Lee finished the weekend 8-8. O'Rourke earned 53 points to finish seventh at 113 pounds. Taylor was 10th at 132 pounds with 41.5 points. Turner scored 42 points to finish 10th at 152 pounds. Lee finished 15th at 220 with 30 points.
At 170 pounds, Dalton Logerman went 6-10, earning 48 points and finishing eighth.
John Lummis was 6-10 at 285 pounds to score 36 points and finish 12th.
The Bulldogs scored 673 points to finish seventh as a team.
The Cameron Dragons were the overall team champions with 885 points while NCMC opponent Kirksville finished second and Marshall finished 23.
The Bulldogs take a short break for the holidays before returning to action Jan. 2 at the Pleasant Hill Junior Varsity Tournament.
