The MMS Bulldogs eighth grade boys basketball team kept its record perfect as they defeated the Troy Trojans 40-38 last Thursday.
The close fought game actually saw the Bulldogs fall behind 17-23 at the end of the second quarter.
The Bulldogs recaptured the lead by the end of the third quarter and maintained a two-point lead throughout the rest of the game to capture the win.
Tyler Spargo scored 11 points and had seven rebounds. Deion Wayman scored eights points and had five steals. Michael White added eight points while Cameron Holman had five points and six steals.
Jamarquay McGruder only scored four points but was busy on the boards with 11 rebounds.
"Troy came into the game ready to go from the opening tip and really had good intensity throughout the game. I think we were a little shell shocked at how fast they started, but we did a good job at keeping our composure," Coach Ryan Richardson said.
"The kids came in at halftime and we really didn't need to make a lot of adjustments, we just had to figure out a way to match their intensity. We knew that if we could do that we were going to be fine. Anytime you play a bigger school, you know you are going to have a game and have to play your best ball. I thought the second half was by far the best we have played all year, and we had to survive that game."
