Stanley Joseph Brooks, 75, of Mexico, formerly of rural Wellsville, passed away at 5:25 A.M., Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at Golden Living Center/ Gamma Road Lodge in Wellsville, where he had resided since September 25, 2013.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M., Saturday, December 28th at the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.
Private Funeral Services will be held. Rev. Luke Wolters will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens, north of Montgomery City. Serving as pallbearers will be Brad Shramek, Steve Shramek, Mark Baugh, Steve Kleinsorge, Willis Kleinsorge and Jim Kleinsorge.
Mr. Brooks was born January 18, 1938, on their family farm in rural Wellsville, a son of Arthur Stanley and Nellie Gray Watson Brooks.
On August 16, 1959, he married Mary Elizabeth Kleinsorge at Grace Lutheran Church in Wellsville. She survives at the home. They observed their 54th Wedding Anniversary on Friday, August 16, 2013.
Mr. Brooks graduated from Wellsville High School in 1956.
He had been a self-employed farmer, raising cattle, hogs and grain on the family farm, where he was born on Route BB near the Wellsville-Middletown area.
Mr. Brooks was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Wellsville.
He liked racing cars in his teenage years as well as playing sports. He especially enjoyed playing basketball over the noon hour at school. When Mr. Brooks had time, he liked to fish and deer hunt.
Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" Brooks, of the home in Mexico; children and spouses, Theresa Jane and Brad Shramek, of Middletown, Artie Joseph and Keela Brooks, of Wellsville and Peggy Sue and Mark Baugh, of Middletown; five grandchildren, Steve Shramek, of Vandalia, Pamela Shramek, of Fenton, Kayla Brooks, of Perry, Lisa Brooks, of Wellsville and Ashley Baugh of Columbia; two great-grandchildren, Kaylee Shramek, of Vandalia and Keaton O'Neal, of Perry; sister and brother-in-law, Rosalie and Lawrence Oligschlaeger; in addition to nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Nellie Brooks and half-brother, Max Vogel.
