Defensive pressure key in wins for NC Thunderbirds

The North Callaway Thunderbirds hosted the Southern Boone Eagles Dec. 30, 2013 and came away winners at the varsity level.
The Lady Thunderbirds handily won their game by the score of 53-34, running their record to 8-1 on the season thus far. The high score differential gave the younger Lady Thunderbirds the opportunity to pick up in game experience.
Elaine Brinker led the team with 15 points, four assists, and three steals. Maddie Sorell had 14 points and three steals. Jaida Gray had eight points and four assists. Kelsey Coil who had four assists also scored six points on a perfect 3 for 3 shooting percentage.
"It all started on the defensive end," said Lady Thunderbirds Coach Matt Miller. "We altered their shots, got rebounds, and that led to several easy baskets for us."
While the Lady Thunderbirds had an almost easy win, the Thunderbirds needed overtime to pull out the 56-48 win.
The Thunderbirds, who trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half and 10 points in the second half, went on an 8-0 scoring run during the overtime period to pull away from the Eagles.
Chance Key led the Thunderbirds in scoring with 17 points. Brett Metcalf had 15 points and pulled in seven rebounds.
Miguel Hudson also registered seven rebounds in the win.
"We played great in the fourth quarter and then in overtime," said Thunderbirds Coach Tim Turlington." It all started on the defensive side by causing turnovers, which led to easy points on our end."
North Callaway will face the Silex Owls Thursday evening.
