Both MHS teams saw action at the Gary Filbert Classic. One came away with a win; the other showed a tenacity that the fans welcomed.
The MHS Lady Bulldogs drew the Steelville Lady Cardinals as their opponents and came away with a 42-30 win. The Lady Bulldogs fell behind 9-10 at the end of the first quarter but quickly reclaimed the lead in the second quarter and never looked back.
The Lady Bulldogs were led by Ali Mudd who scored 14 points, including making 4-of-9 from beyond the 3-point line. Mudd also had three rebounds and a steal. Danielle Baumgartner had seven points, three rebounds and three steals. Kelli Ingrum had six points, five rebounds, an assist and a steal. Karen Baker had five points and a rebound. Kaitlin Ingrum had four points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists. Sydnee Playter added three points, three assists, three rebounds and two steals. Riley Greenwell contributed three points and an assist. Remi Greenwell had two assists. Ahlie Woodruff had a rebound and a steal. Tori Shaw had a rebound.
“It was good to play again,” said Head Coach Ed Costley. “The girls were ready to play someone new, someone they hadn’t seen in practice.”
Weather permitting, the Lady Bulldogs travel to Harrisburg tomorrow night. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The MHS Bulldogs faced off against the Mt. Vernon Mountaineers in Game # 5 of the Gary Filbert Classic and were upended by the score of 62-73. The Bulldogs were outscored in every quarter except the third, but they maintained a 'never quit' attitude that drew praise from the fans. The loss brings the Bulldogs' record to 4-4 overall on the season thus far. The Bulldogs were led by Cole Jaramillo who amassed 37 points, including seven shots made from beyond the 3-point line, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. James Norton had 11 points, a rebound, three assist, and a steal. Skylar Harrington had six points, six assists and three steals.
D’Milo Nunnelly had five points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal. Wesley Oetting had two points and a rebound. Sam Lee added two points. Malik Holman had seven rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot.
The Bulldogs will take on Lebanon in the California Tournament Tuesday Jan. 14 at 4:30 p.m.
