  • Aggressive Bulldogs bite Spartans

  • The MHS Bulldogs (9-10) basketball teams welcomed the Moberly Spartans to the Gary Filbert Court Wednesday evening.
    Both games saw MHS employ an aggressive defensive strategy enroute to a victory.
    The Lady Bulldogs, were up 15-0 at the start of the second half when they went on a 17 point offensive scoring to end the game with a 34-2 win.
    Laura Fischer led the Lady Bulldogs with a seven points, one rebound, one steal performance.
    Kayla Scobee, Carly Abbott and Anna Procter all added six points each.
    Scobee's performance included five rebounds and a steal. Abbott had three rebounds and a steal. Procter added five rebounds.
    Kroneshia Belcher had five points, four steals, two rebounds and an assist.
    Leslie Fischer had two points, three rebounds and three steals.
    Rachel Owings had four rebounds.
    Brooke Ransom had three assists, a rebound and a steal. Kayla Purcell also had a rebound.
    In the second game of the night, the Bulldogs also used an early aggressive defensive effort to jump out to an 11 point lead by the end of the first quarter.
    "Our defensive intensity was the key factor in the game," said Coach Darren Pappas. "We forced some turnovers and capitalized off Moberly's mistakes."
    The Bulldogs would never trail in the contest.
    On offense, Wesley Oetting led the team in scoring with 28 points on a night where he was making shots from both inside and outside the lane.
    Brady Jacobi added 11 points. Sam Lee had five points.
    Clay Jeffrey and Issac Troy both had two points. Shawn Jennings added a point.
    "Offensively, we worked the ball and really crashed the boards," said Pappas. "This led to a lot of second chance points in the paint."
