Dorothy M. Symmonds, 87, of Kenosha, WI – and for many years a resident of Macon – passed away in her residence at the Canterbury Assisted Living Facility in Kenosha on January 13, 2014.

Mrs. Symmonds was born on August 26, 1926 in Macon County, MO, the daughter of Eli M. and Pearl Riley. She graduated from Atlanta High School in 1944. She married Laurence W. Symmonds on February 9, 1947 in Macon. He preceded her in death in August, 2002.   She was a member of First Baptist Church of Macon and served with the Prayer & Stitches, Senior Center and Funeral Dinner Ministries.

Surviving are one son, Don Symmonds, and his wife Marilyn, of Cedarburg, WI; one daughter, Lana, and her husband, Ralph Newton, of Kenosha; four grandchildren, Steve Symmonds, Mark Symmonds, Taylor Newton and Brinda Newton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and one brother, Eugene Riley.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Saturday, 01/18, 2014 at the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon with Sr. Adult Pastor Clark Dobbs officiating. Burial will be in the Locust Grove Cemetery in Callao, MO. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday and 10:00-11:00 AM Saturday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church or The American Cancer Society and may be left at the funeral home.
