Mexico woman charged with three counts child abuse and endangering welfare of a child

A Mexico woman, April R. Davis, 27, is in Audrain County Jail charged with three counts of child abuse/neglect and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. The charges are class C felonies.
According to the probable cause statement, Mexico Public Safety Department was contacted in November 2013 by a state children's division worker, who reported three children, of Davis', ages 8, 3 and 2 were living in an unsanitary home on West Breckenridge. When the division worker entered the home she observed the home to be dirty, having pet feces/urine on the floors. According to the statement, the youngest two children's bedroom door was locked from the outside and a rope was on the door to secure it. The worker stated there was human feces all over the walls, floor and crib. She described the smell as "overhelming."
Following the visit from the children's division, MPSD investigated further and fowarded its findings to the Audrain County Prosecuting Attorney's office.
As of this morning, Davis remains in jail with a $10,000 bond. A preliminary hearing has been set for 1:30 p.m., Feb. 18.
