Structure fire under investigation
At approximately 2:23 p.m. Tuesday, the Mexico Public Safety Department responded to a structure fire in the 600 block of South Calhoun. Responding personnel found an abandoned building which contained four apartments to have flame coming from what had once been a living room window of one of the apartments. The fire was contained and extinguished with the living room suffering significant fire damage and the rest of the apartment having smoke and heat damage. The other apartments were not damaged.
According to the Public Safety it appeared that unauthorized people had been coming and going from the apartment and the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. There were no injuries from the incident.
