Mother arrested for leaving children alone

A Mexico woman was arrested Tuesday after her two children, ages 2 and 5,  were found walking in the roadway late Monday evening.
According to the Mexico Public Safety, officers responded to a call at approximately 11:42 p.m. Monday to the 1900 block of Osage in reference to a citizen who had come across two young children walking in the roadway in another part of town.  The children had told the citizen they were looking for their mother. After unsuccessfully attempting to help them find her, the citizen brought the children home and called MPSD.
At approximately 12:05 a.m. Tuesday, officers located the mother, Cara D. Widaman, 25, of Mexico, driving in the 1100 block of Mansfield. Widaman was arrested for two counts of second-degree Endangering Welfare of a Child and Driving While Intoxicated.  She was processed at MPSD and taken to the Audrain County Jail where she posted bond on the offenses.
According to MPSD, the children were left in the custody of other family members.
