Residents prepare for Fourth celebration
With July 4 only a few days away, anyone searching for celebrations to attend may want to look no further than these local Ledgerland communities.
The Mexico Host Lions Club, the Missouri Veterans’ Home Assistance League and the Mexico Optimist Club will sponsor a fireworks display at the Mexico Optimist Fields. The fireworks will fire at or shortly after dusk.
The Mexico Host Lions Club will be selling barbecue chicken halves and pork steaks from 11 a.m. until evening at the Optimist Fields.
Parking for the event will be available at Azdell Hydraulics, Old Farm Professional Building, the Optimist Fields and the veterans’ home.
The Mexico Youth League's third annual 2014 Lady Outlaws' Mushball tournament held at the Optimist Fields at 11 a.m. Mushball is essentially a co-ed softball game played with a regulation size ball that is squishy like a tee-ball. There is no cost to the public to attend the games. There will also be a jump house and dunk tank available for the kids.

Paris will hold its yearly fireworks display Friday, July 4 at dusk at the Paris Fairgrounds. In case of a rain out, the makeup day will be Saturday, July 5, also at dusk.
This year's fireworks will be detonated by members of the Monroe County Sheriff's Department and Gary Tawney. In the city of Paris, fireworks can continue to be shot off for three days following July 4, from the hours of 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. The First Christian Church will have a barbecue July 4, at the Paris Fairgrounds from 6-8:30 p.m.
The Laddonia Athletic Association has a full day of activities planned to celebrate July 4. (All events held at the city ball fields.) Athletic events include a men's slow pitch softball tournament starting at 9 a.m. and a mud volleyball tournament starting at 1 p.m. There will also be a variety of kid's games too. A parade is scheduled for 11 a.m. starting at the city park and ending at the ball fields. The Lost Laddonia Boys will provide music starting at 6 p.m. with a fireworks display scheduled for around dusk.

The city of Centralia will host a 15-20 minutes long fireworks display at dusk at the city recreational park on the east side of town.
Mark Twain Lake Rodeo (Perry)
The 28th annual Mark Twain Lake Rodeo will run July 3-5 at the Warren G. See South Spillway Recreation Area just below Clarence Cannon Dam, approximately nine miles north of Perry on Rt. J or nine miles south of Hwy. 24/36 between Hannibal and Monroe City on Rt. J.
