MHS Bulldog wrestler Jordan Jones comes home with gold from Granite City

MHS Bulldog wrestler Jordan Jones continued his winning ways June 27 when he captured the gold medal in the high school (135-140 pounds) division at the Granite City Friday Night Folkstyle tournament in Granite, IL. His path to the championship included several outstanding matches.
Jones' first match was against Dakota Theves of Northwest, who took sixth place in the MSHSAA Class 4 finals last year. At the end of of the hard fought match, Jones claimed a 7-0 victory.
In his second match of the night, the semifinal match, Jones faced Austin Neal of Oakville High School, claiming the 2-1 win after four overtime periods.
In the championship match, Jones faced off against Jarrid Braunagel of Althoff Catholic (IL). Braunagel took third in his weight division in the Illinois state championships with only one loss to his record on the season. The match between Jones and Braunagel was a fast paced affair filled with back and forth non-stop action. At the final buzzer, Jones claimed victory with a 7-5 score.
“It was a great chance to get experience,” said Jones. “Facing different guys helps me learn more about wrestling.”
MHS Bulldogs Wrestling Coach Gayle Adams praised Jones for his dedication.
“He is working hard this summer,” Adams said. “He wants to get better at his sport. There is no doubt about his dedication.”
