Event aimed at helping coaches become better coaches and mentors
Mexico high school and middle school sports coaches took time out Tuesday for a professional workshop aimed at helping them become better coaches and mentors to the student-athletes.
The group of approximately 50 coaches took part in the “3 Dimensional Coaching” presentation by Mark Gassman Mid-Missouri area representative of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The presentation outlines three specific dimensions, or levels, of coaching: first, fundamentals (physical); second, psychology (mind); third, heart (holism).
The three focus points of Tuesday's presentation were communication, building relationships with student-athletes and organization. MHS coaches viewed instructional video clips and then spoke about how they could use the ideas in their coaching position.
“It [the presentation] gave us all things to think about,” said MHS wrestling coach Gayle Adams. “At the same time, it's good to know that a lot of MHS coaches are already doing some of the things they talked about doing in the videos.”
The workshop was more than just a presentation, though, as the coaches also completed CPR/First Aid/ AED training.
