  • Frances Mae Baker Sutton, 86, Mexico, MO passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014.
    A Memorial Service will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Terry Kukuk officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the church fellowship hall.
    Frances Mae was born on September 16, 1927 to Joseph and Frances (Bernasek) Rosel at St. Louis, Mo. She was the youngest of six children. Frances married James R. Baker, August 28, 1948 and moved to Mexico in May 1951. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Timothy Lee, Nancy Beth and Andrew James. After the death of James R. Baker in 1967, Frances began her employment with the Mexico Public Schools in 1968. She served the schools for 31 years as Secretary to the Board of Education. Frances married James W. Sutton in February 1977 and he died in January 1987. She became a member of First Presbyterian Church in 1952 and was honored for being a member over 60 years. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, Deacon, Elder, Clerk of Session, Trustee, Circle Leader, Moderator Presbyterian Women, and other various church committees.
    She was active in her community and served as secretary to the Audrain Historical Society, Laurene Miller Schwab Scholarship Selection Committee, Member Presser Hall Restoration Society, Member Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, Past President of Beta Sigma Phi, Past-Secretary Business/Professional Women’s Club, Mexico Golden K Kiwanis Treasurer, Lifetime Member AMC Auxiliary, Lifetime Member Audrain Humane Society, Member of King’s Daughters Beulah Johnson Circle.
    She is survived by two children, Nancy Baker Geary (Philip Geary)–Independence, Mo and Andrew Baker (Nancy Piper Baker)—Mexico, MO, daughter in law, Janel Eshelman Baker—Burlington, Iowa. She has four granddaughters, Diane Beth Geary Frisbie—Independence, Mo, Jane Frances Geary Alt—Overland Park, Ks, Anne Elizabeth Baker and Karen Elise Baker—Mexico, MO and one great-grandson, Kevin Michael Frisbie—Independence, MO.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James R. Baker, son Timothy, husband James Sutton, three brothers and two sisters.
    Frances enjoyed her family, playing bridge, was devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan and lover her faithful canine, LITLBIT.
