Alleged domestic assault case leads to wild scene on streets

On Nov. 11 at 1:21 pm, Mexico Public Safety officers were dispatched to the intersection of North Clark and Perry streets, regarding a traffic crash.
It was not your routine accident scene.

On their arrival, officers found a damaged silver Honda Accord facing west on Perry. Officers also saw a damaged Chevrolet Equinox facing south on a front yard in the 1400 block of North Clark.

Adding to the chaotic scene were a broken utility pole and electrical lines that fell in the roadway.

A female involved in the accident told officers that she was driving the Honda and that the driver of the Equinox, Kimmie Watts, 44, of Mexico had been in pursuit for several blocks. She reported being struck in the rear of her Honda repeatedly by Watts.

When the two battered vehicles arrived at Perry and Clark, Watts allegedly continued to ram the rear of the Honda. The female victim informed police that as they crossed the intersection, Watts pulled next to her and attempted to run her off the road.

Watts crashed into the front of her vehicle, lost control, collided with the utility pole and drove into the yard.

After investigation, Watts was charged with domestic assault (third degree), driving while intoxicated, careless and imprudent driving involving a crash, and driving without a valid license.

He was booked and taken to Audrain County Sheriff’s Office.
