Jerome B. Talken, 85 of Centralia, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012 at Boone Hospital in Columbia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Brendan Catholic Church in Mexico. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. Brendan Cemetery. Visitation is Friday evening from 5:00 - 7:30 p.m. at Arnold Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 5:00 p.m. at Arnold Funeral Home, visitation to follow until 7:30 p.m.
Jerome was born on June 15, 1926 in Jefferson City, MO, the son of Henry Herman and Leona Mary (Heimericks) Talken. On May 21, 1990 he married Vivian Lou Davis in Mexico. She survives at the home.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and had worked at National Refractories, where his co-workers knew him as Tiger. He was a member of St. Brendan Catholic Church, the American Legion and Eagle’s Club in Jefferson City and the Knights of Columbus in Mexico. He loved to watch the St. Louis Cardinals on television and play with his dog Crystal.
He is survived by his wife Vivian, and children; Jerry Talken and wife Linda of St. Louis, Jane Pilger and husband Gary of Mexico, Jeff Talken of Mexico, June McGinnis and husband Jim of Mexico, Jackie Brown and husband Brian of Columbia, Jeannie Durham and husband Wayne of Decatur, IL, and Tony McCoy and wife Beth of Centralia, 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by nine brothers and sisters; Bernie Talken of Raymore, Carrie Landtiser of Lees Summit, and Georgia Rudroff of Raymore, Stanley Talken of Lake Zurich, IL, Catherine Andres of Palatine, IL, Maxie Cleveland of New Bloomfield, Gilbert Talken and Barbie Poetker, both of Jefferson City, and Fran Talken of Troy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Omar.
