The Bulldog Booster Club got together with parents and fans Thursday night to give one more hurrah for Mexico High School’s winter athletes.
The annual reception in the MHS sports complex shined the spotlight on boys basketball, girls basketball, wrestling, dancing and cheerleading squad members.
The evening began with refreshments in the lobby, then the crowd moved into the sports complex gym for remarks by participating coaches. They included Shane Ringen, Grade 9 boys basketball; Brennan Scanlon, boys basketball; Ed Costley, girls basketball; Nick Hoth, wrestling; Malissa Beasley, dancing; Susan Gheens, cheerleading.
Below is the list of award winners provided by the MHS athletic department.
Boys basketball: Regan Mudd, 9.1 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 1 bpg, second-team All-NCMC. Sam Kelly, 7.3 ppg, 37 3-point fgm, 75 percent ft, 94 assists, second-team All-NCMC. Dillon Shoemaker, 10.7 ppg, 5.1 rpg, first-team All-NCMC. Austin Reed, 10.5 ppg, 78 percent ft, 50 percent 3-point fg, second-team All-NCMC; Ta’Juan Williams, Bulldog Leadership Award. Kurt Loyd, special award winner. Scott Barker, special award winner.
Girls basketball: Danielle Ingrum, Pickpocket Award, 102 steals, first-team All-NCMC. Kelsey Creed, Miss Assist, 72 assists. Erika Miller, Glass Cleaner Award, 172 rebounds. Erika Miller, Defensive Player of the Year, second-team All-NCMC. Brooke Costley, school record 88 percent FT (made 52 of 59; old record 77 percent by Tracy Franklin), second-team All-NCMC. Sherrell Cooks, second-team All-NCMC.
Wrestling: Jake Vitale, Newcomer of the Year. Josh Harlan, Heart of a Bulldog. Patrick Enslen, Most Improved. Haylon Jacobs, MVP. State qualifiers/all-district: Jake Vitale, Sinjon Adams, Monterio Burton, Josh Cuno, Patrick Enslen, Haylon Jacobs, Josh Harlan.
