On Sunday, January 1, 2017, at approximately 3:56PM, Mexico Public Safety responded to Howell Manor Court in reference to a disturbance with one person being shot. Responding personnel learned that Daryl E Richardson, age 22 of Mexico, was in a verbal argument with a 25 year-old Mexico man, and Richardson shot the other man twice as the other man walked away. With the assistance of some alert citizens, MPSD arrested Richardson without incident a few minutes after the shooting, about four blocks away. Richardson was processed at MPSD and later transported to the Audrain County Jail for Assault 1st degree and Armed Criminal Action.
The man who was shot was taken to University Hospital by Audrain Ambulance District.
Citizens are reminded that people arrested / charged with a crime are simply accused of the crime and are to be considered innocent until proven guilty.
