Ever since the North Callaway varsity girl's basketball team pulled out a close overtime game at Centralia to start the season, its' either rolled over or through most of the competition that it's faced.
That run of good fortune had to come to a close at some point, though, and it happened Monday as the Ladybird's lost to host South Callaway in the first round of the Lady Bulldog's tournament 67-39.
While the outcome may be uncharacteristic for North Callaway in 2016-17, it still had several standouts for the contest. This includes Allie Schlueter with a team-high 12 points and five steals, Sam Schaefer grabbed 14 rebounds and nine points and Kyla Bertschinger put up nine points. Kenzie Ausfahl also had five points and six assists.
For South Calllaway, Adrian Mann went 4-for-6 on three-pointers and 8-for-9 on two-pointers to score a game high 33 and Nicole Horstman also hit four three-pointers to give a 12-point performance.
The Ladybird's actually led 16-11 in the first quarter and were only down 25-23 at the half after getting outscored in the second 14-7. That's when South Callaway, 9-4 overall, took over and claimed the second half 42-16. This includes 23-7 in nthe third and 19-9 in the fourth.
North Callaway, 8-2 overall, faces Owensville in the second round of this tournament today at 6 p.m. at the middle school.
