Little Dixie Fire Protection District Station 3 was dispatched to a structure fire in the 6000 block of Audrain Road 217, Centralia, at 12:37 a.m. Friday on the property

First arriving units found heavy smoke and fire coming from 36’ X 24’ ranch-style home. The home owned by Melissa Griffin-ford, was approximately 50 percent involved in fire at time of the first arriving units.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but a space heater in the living room is being examined.

According to Ken Hoover, Little Dixie Fire Protection District Chief, the owner had left the residence to take her husband to work in Mexico and upon returning found the home on fire.

According to the report, numerous animals perished in the fire and the home received heavy damage.

Little Dixie Station 3 responded with two units, Station 1 with two units, Station four with one unit and Boone County Fire District with one unit. A total of 22 firefighters battled the fire. No injuries were reported.

Little Dixie units cleared the scene at 4:09 a.m.
