In its' final game of the Warrenton Tournament on Thursday, the Mexico varsity girl's basketball team crescendoed by defeating O'Fallon Christian 73-53.
"Good finish to the week. One of our more balanced offensive outings on the season with good outside shooting (11-three's) and inside play," said coach Ed Costley. "Anna Proctor and Logan Blevins having double digits each really made it difficult for O'Fallon Christian to defend us."
Once again proving noteworthy for the Lady Bulldog's was Adria Costley with a team-high 18 points,
two steals and one rebound, Logan Blevins went 6-for-7 from the floor to score 14 with four boards and a steal and adding 13 points, six rebounds and two blocks was Anna Proctor. Raigan Playetr also put up eight points, three assists, two boards and one steal, Morgan Bledsoe added nine points, five assists, a rebound and a steal and Aaryn Sampo contributed two points and one steal.
"As a team we had 24 assist with Adria leading with 14," Ed Costley said. "I thought she and Morgan Bledsoe did a fantastic job of running the offense."
For the game Mexico went 31-for-46 from the floor, including 7-for-9 from three-point territory, and 4-for-9 from the free throw line. The squad also charted 22 rebounds, nine steals and two blocks.
"We made some adjustments against their press and was able to capitalize with open layup so on the back end," said Ed Costley. "We have to get better as a team at finishing our defensive possessions with rebounds."
As for Christian, it connected on 12-of-32 two-pointers, 3-of-12 three-pointers and was 20-for-33 from the charity stripe with 12 boards, two blocks and eight turnovers.
"We've played only three games with all of our players and tonight we were the healthiest we've been all year," Ed Costley said. "You could see some chemistry and comfort between the girls."
