Before the Mexico School Board meeting Tuesday night, Vicki Murphy, district bus driver; and Mary Wilson, Mexico Middle School assistant cafeteria manager, were given a Golden Apple for recently retiring from the district.

Dr. Peter Perll, president of the board, congratulated the two women. "Congratulations and many years of service and dedication," Perll said.

School board members were also recognition for their dedication and presents gifts and letters written by students for School Board Appreciation Week.

The board received an update on the renovations of the school buildings. The fences are up at the schools and the earthwork contractor is ready to go.

During the business meeting, Superintendent of Schools Kevin Freeman presented options for the upcoming school calendar. He recommended a five-day week with school starting on Aug. 23, 2017. There would be a longer Christmas break with students attending school on Monday and Tuesday before Christmas (Christmas is on a Monday). The last day of school will be May 22, with graduation on May 21. The board voted to approve Freeman's recommendation 7-0.

Freeman also talked about the budget. He had made some changes when he talked to the board about the budget at the study meeting held earlier this month. He discussed cuts and said the number of cuts depends on if the tax levy passes in April.

The board adjourned to executive session.
