When the Wentworth Military Academy cancelled its visit to the Missouri Military Academy on Jan. 11 for a varsity wrestling meet because it couldn't come close to fielding a complete roster, that meant the squad would go over a month without competing.
Perhaps it was because they hadn't been in action since the Battle at Lexington on Dec. 16-17, but the Fighting Colonel's weren't at their best on Thursday when the squad lost at Blair Oaks to Owensville 60-18 and Blair Oaks 68-12.
In the bout against Owensville Stiles Fountain proved to be a highlight by pinning Tighe Bombach in 1:44 at 132, Dorio Rodriguez at 195 topped Joe Buaer in :53 and at 106 R Choy won by forfeit. Tyler Henigman at 126 found the going much tougher for MMA at 120 and lost in 1:08 to Wyatt Lauth, Alex Schaaf at 138 was downed by Dustin Jahnsen in :26 and Samuel Carr lost to Owensville's Tanner Rector at 160 in :28.
Matthew Thibodeaux also was beat at 170 for the Colonel's by Colton Moore in 1:09, Phonix Jumper was defeated in 1:41 at 182 by Caleb Gray and Charles Norman at 220 lost by fall to Owensville's Jace Ellis in 1:43. Sky Thunderchild-Henio found the event rather challenging at 285, as well, getting pinned in :48 by Camren McQueen, both teams took a void at 120 and earning victories by forfeit for Owensville included Austin Angell at 113, Cooper Bombach at 152 and Blaine Schoenfield at 145.
The dual against Blair Oaks was even dimmer for MMA considering its only wins came by void at 106 by Choy and 195 by Rodriguez.
The Colonel's were at the St. Clair Invitational on Jan. 21 and on Jan. 24 the team is at North Callaway for a tri-meet.
