The first game of the Sturgeon Tournament on Tuesday had the potential to be an astounding jumping off point for head coach Matt Thomas and the Community R-6 varsity boys basketball team considering it started the season by defeating their hosts at home.

Because Sturgeon had no desire to repeat those results, it instead found a way to keep things close before eventually sending the game to overtime and defeating the Trojan's 73-68.

"We had a shot with about 10 seconds to go that went in and out," said Thomas. "Our effort level was outstanding. We played a complete 32 minutes. They took the early lead in overtime with a three-pointer and we just couldn't get it back. They went on a 7-0 run to start."

Community R-6's next game is Thursday in the second round of this tournament.
