Soft Surroundings, held a ribbon cutting and grand opening Tuesday for its new distribution center in Mexico.  The new 300,000-square-foot facility replaces the previous Soft Surroundings distribution center in Mexico, which had been in operation since 2007.  

The distribution center will employ upwards of 150 individuals, and will fulfill customer orders to all 50 states as well as Canada.  Additionally, the center will distribute products to all 43 current Soft Surroundings retail stores nationwide, as well as all future retail locations. Tom Wilcher, CEO, told the crowd they plan to open 17 new stores this year.

"Isn't this the most awesome building," he said. He also said they love building in the city of Mexico. "We love being in Mexico."

Laura Barrett, senior vice president of operations, said it is amazing how they got all the work done on the building and still kept the business going. She thanked the employees for their dedication. "I have never seen such dedicated employees as you are," she told them. "We are so proud of what we have done here."

Also addressing the crowd were Mayor Greg Miller and Chamber of Commerce President Robby Miller.

"On behalf of the city council, welcome to Mexico," said the mayor. He told the Soft Surroundings dignitaries that the city is happy they had the confidence to operate in Mexico. "I don't think you will be disappointed." He also gave a special thanks to the employees.

Robby Miller also commented on the on the building. "It is a magnificent building. Thank you for your investment," he said.

Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, tours were given of the facility.
