Laughter and talking were the sights and sounds at the Mexico Senior Center Monday when former employees and retirees from Wetterau Food, spent time visiting and catching up on the days they worked together. At 11:30 approximately 25 former employees were in attendance, with more coming in the door.
They were part of the Mexico Senior Center's Day of Celebration. This was the fourth Day of Celebration held at the center. Previous companies honored were A.P. Green and National Refractories and Audrain Medical Center.
Ione Bickell, administrator of the center, said she enjoys these special days. She thanks the former employees for coming and said she hopes they come back to the center.
"I love it when they laugh and having fun talking to each other about their work days," said Bickell.
The event was held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. when the guests visited ate lunch and were served ice cream and cake.
Larry Hickman, part of the committee who planned the event, said Wetterau opened in Mexico around 1920 and closed it's doors here in 1993.
Bickell said the Senior Center plans to hold another Day of Celebration, but she wasn't sure what company it would be. The Day of Celebration is held to honor employees from former companies and industries in Mexico.
The committee for the Wetterau Day of Celebration included; Susan Blacketer, chairman, Robert Shaw, Jennifer Dick, Hickman and Doris Gore.
