The first concert in the park for the summer was held Tuesday night in the gazebo in Hardin Park. Area residents brought their lawn chairs and blankets and took advantage of the nice weather.

The concert series was kickoff by the Community Band under the direction of Josh Yancey. Yancey, who has been director for a number of years, said they have members from Mexico, Fulton and Paris. "We come from all walks of life," he told the audience.

The band only gets together in the summer and they have little practice before  their first concert, but they delighted the crowd with several songs.

The band started the concert with "Star Spangled Banner," followed with what Yancey tilted "Instant Concert," a medley of songs in addition to several other songs.

Other performances this summer will include: Echo's, June 13; bluegrass Jam, June 20; Community Band, June 27; Liberty Jazz, July 11; Bluegrass Jam, July 18; and Community Band, July 25.

The concerts, sponsored by the Mexico Parks and recreation Department are held at 7 p.m. each Tuesday in the gazebo.
