Robert Boyce Willingham, 87, of Mexico, passed away at 10:50 a.m. on Monday, June 12, 2017 at Pin Oaks Living Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Arnold Funeral Home. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation is Friday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robert was born July 2, 1929 in Mexico, the son of Burl Boyce and Clara Marie (Creed) Willingham. On Nov. 2, 1953 in Mexico, he was united in marriage to Shirley Johnston by Monsignor Gavan.

In his earlier years, Robert worked for Graf and Sons Rock Quarry. He later worked on the railroad for Illinois Central Gulf, retiring in 1991 after 27 years of service. During his retirement, Mr. Willingham enjoyed helping his son, Rodney, on the farm.

Robert was baptized in Young’s Creek and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Molino. He was a member of the NRA and loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed listening to dogs chase coyotes. Robert had been a Khoury League coach and loved attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. He always made family his priority and especially loved holding his grandbabies.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley of the home; one daughter, Dedra Lee (Roger) Heath of Mexico; two sons, Rodney Boyce (Carol Fennewald) Willingham of Martinsburg and Gary Alan (Juanita Aulbur) Willingham of Mexico; eight grandchildren, Michael Griffin of Jamestown, Abby Libsack of Minnesota, Marsha Griffin of Florida, Brady Heath of Wentzville, Amanda Willingham of Columbia, Curtis Boyce Willingham of Columbia, Illinois, Diana Fox of Mexico, and Melanie Johns of Theodosia; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one brother, Mike Willingham and his wife, Juanita, of Sante Fe.

Mr. Willingham was preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde and Roy Willingham; and three sisters, Naomi Young, Mildred Young and Odell Belcher.
