Because the buildings for Paris Community Schools are located right next to one another, that allowed girls varsity basketball coach Garrett Thomas to open up multiple gyms in order to host a basketball shootout at the end of last week.
The action began at 8:00 a.m. with the host Lady Coyotes taking on Cairo at the high school while North Callaway played South Shelby at the elementary school. Van-Far was also on-hand for this event and played Scotland County at 2:00 p.m. at the high school.
Because Thomas was fortunate enough to get people like boys varsity basketball player Dillon Painter and varsity softball/baseball coach Mike Fible to help out as referees for this shootout, the format was able to extend from Thur. only to Thur. and Fri. That allowed area teams like Centralia and Community R-6 that couldn't make it for day one to still participate.
The format for this event featured two 16-minute halves, a running clock and a two-minute halftime. Both JV and varsity games were available, but some rescheduling did have to take place that included Montgomery County being left off of the revised schedule.
Results included the host Lady Coyotes defeating the Ladybirds at the elementary school at 1:20 p.m.
